In Leipzig, Bach spent the rest of his life, created a very large body of work, and one would like to think it was because he was very happy there.  This was not actually the case.

On a personal level, tragedy would strike again and again. Out of thirteen children of Bach and Anna Magdalena, seven died in infancy or at a very young age. One son was born “feeble-minded” which was a euphemism for a mental disease.
